Dr. Chavis is the Co-Founder, President and CEO of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN). The HSAN is currently the largest coalition of hip-hop artists, recording executives and civil rights leaders in the nation.

Previously Dr. Chavis was the former President and CEO of the National African American Leadership Summit. National Executive Director for the Million-Man March.

In 1993 Dr. Chavis became the youngest Executive Director and CEO of the NAACP.

Dr. Chavis received his Doctor of Ministry from Howard University in 1981.
